Synopsis
Superman (2025) is an upcoming American superhero film that reboots the Superman franchise and is the inaugural installment in the new DC Universe (DCU). It is directed by James Gunn, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Safran, and is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
The narrative centers on a young Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, as he navigates his dual identity as Superman and a reporter in Metropolis. The story delves into his efforts to reconcile his extraterrestrial Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. Rachel Brosnahan co-stars as Lois Lane, Clark’s colleague and love interest, while Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of the enigmatic Lex Luthor.
The ensemble cast also features Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. The film introduces Krypto the Superdog, adding a unique dynamic to Superman’s story.
Drawing inspiration from the “All-Star Superman” comic series by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, the film aims to explore themes of identity, heritage, and heroism. Filming commenced in early 2024, with principal photography taking place in Norway and at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
Superman (2025) is poised to redefine the iconic superhero for a new generation, blending action, emotion, and a fresh perspective on the beloved character.
